Thoughts on Wings by Uzlo Thoughts on Wings by Uzlo
So, I did a little wing thing (Or, I did this a long time ago but never bothered to upload it). I'm no wing-major, but I thought it was funny to do and that perhaps someone would appreciate it considering how effing difficult it is to draw wings...

So, here's to all of you who care! : D

Mattias, the main model of this little tutorial-thing, is mine. His wings aren't that rainbow-ish (They look like the orange-brownish plumage one of the miniature wingpairs). It's for the sake of clarity!

Enjoy! Or something.

Edit: D....DD? ;___; *tears of Joy* Thank yoooou!

And since everyone ask me, all the time: No, I have not read Maximum ride.

Thoughts on Wings by *AuroraCarina-chan is almost an anatomy class about fantastic winged creatures. Every detail is very well explained and put in a way that is easy to understand. ( Suggested by Raulzito2112 and Featured by shelldevil )

Thank you so much for this. I keep seeing direction for correct wing placement on humans and wanting to tear my hair out because yes, hi, biology, and also the sheer joy of fiction and wanting things to look nice and cool. This made me so so happy to see.
But I also super love the person with butt wings and I'd love to see thousands of besuited professionals commuting to work that way XD
You're fantastic. I hope you find fifty bucks on the ground tomorrow.

on the 'another set' of muscles thing (this was from tumblr user doodlefrog so I cant take credit for this)

"
Actually! The big muscle group that birds use to move their wings is the Pec Minor, which lies just beneath the Pec Major (your outer pecs). In humans, this muscle is tiny compared to the Pec Major because we don’t use it for much (besides stabilizing the scapula)—if we had wings, though, that Pec Minor would be superbly developed, and probably be about the same size as the Pec Major in order to function properly and support those wings, which would attach somewhere around the scapula. And with that, you’d develop all the muscles that stabilize and move the scapula, including your serratus anterior (the nice scale-like muscles on ripped dudes) and the trapezoid muscle along your upper back and neck. The Pec Major would either increase in size, too, or remain about the same because it supports both arm and wing movement. Basically, we’ve already got the equipment needed to support wings, and you don’t need to go slapping on new muscle groups." - word-for-word

Do you actually have a story that has mattias in it? I love reading stuff about winged ppl and mattias seems like a well fleshed out character.

I think I already commented here somewhere already, but what the heck. For some reason, winged people make the Dragon Roost Island theme from LoZ Wind Waker pop into my head. Does anyone else have a similar thing happen to them when you think of that kind of thing?

This is really helpful! I love to draw winged characters, and was thinking about writing a story involving some. (Then again, I have a lot of stories in progress.) This will also be pretty useful reference for drawing Kid Icarus characters. Thanks for making this! :D

Waoh! I was searching for something like this because I read an scientific article that explains why we can't fly with a pair of wings. Our anatomy is not for this, what a disgrace :(
But in fantasy all is possible! :D

This is really good. I'm definitely going to need to hang on to this.
Just a though, wings would require a completely separate set of shoulder blades and collarbones, and maybe a modified sternum, don't you think?

Actually, for a human to be capable of flight, the wings would have to be at least 40 feet long. But that would look weird. Who needs size calculations when you have BIRD PEOPLE!
